The Office of the Municipal Public Defender has been in existence for five years in the City and County of Denver. We are excited to invite applications for a Receptionist/Legal Office Assistant for this growing agency.
The Municipal Public Defender’s Office provides legal services to indigent defendants of Denver County who are facing the possibility of jail for traffic, municipal violations and specialty courts. The Chief Municipal Public Defender reports directly to the Municipal Public Defender’s Commission. The Public Defenders and administrative staff report to the Chief Public Defender.
The Receptionist/Legal Office Assistant will perform various office duties and will be the face of the office as the receptionist and greeter of our clients. Our clients have a multitude of questions and this role will be to either answer the questions or to refer them to the person that can. We are looking for a driven individual who is passionate about criminal justice and the communities the Municipal Public Defender supports. This role will report directly to the Chief Municipal Public Defender. This position will be an in office role.
As the Receptionist/Legal Office Assistant you can expect to:
Manage documentation and files for the Office of Municipal Public Defender
Utilize a computer to input information/data and creating reports;
Perform word processing
Be the front desk receptionist and the face of the office.
Provide the public with general and/or explanatory information; explaining and clarifying rules, processes, and procedures
Compile information and generate reports.
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
Experience in a legal setting or a degree in Criminal Justice/related field
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Customer service experience, ability to work with diverse groups and communities
Ability to work under pressure
Data entry skills
Ability to learn Legal computer systems
High amount of attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bilingual or multilingual

Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSet, or TASC Certificate.
Experience: One (1) year of clerical experience.
Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
