Facebook seeks a Policy Communications Manager to support a wide range of initiatives and programs for the Policy Communications Team. This role will provide communications support for the policy issues outlined in our Community Standards, working cross-functionally with teams at Facebook on content issues, with a specific focus on hate speech and content policies that have civil rights implications. The ideal candidate will have experience working at the intersection of technology, civil rights and social issues. Candidates should have strong media relations and writing skills, a good understanding of the U.S. and global political landscape as well as a good understanding of technology issues, our policies and the social debate around our platforms.

  • Lead communications activities on content policy issues that have civil rights implications, including hate speech and other Facebook Community Standards
  • Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of issues related to Facebooks content policies
  • Develop and create a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, communications plans, statements, briefing materials for executives and more
  • Develop and pitch stories related to Facebooks content policies and procedures
  • Support company launches and announcements
  • Work with our global Comms, Policy, Legal, Product, Partnership, and Operations teams to build, understand and communicate on policies and that support and protect our community and reputation
  • Create programs that help educate the press, policy makers and groups on how Facebook works
  • Develop proactive campaigns to educate new and existing users on issues related to content
  • Limited agency management will be required
  • Bachelors degree in communications, liberal arts, or social sciences
  • 10+ years of communications or related experience
  • Experience in public policy, public affairs, crisis communications or issues management
  • Experience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, and Research
  • Experience working under deadlines
  • 14+ years of work experience
  • Experience distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language
  • Experience and relationships with media, including multi-cultural reporters and bloggers
  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
  • Experience developing outreach programs
  • PR Agency or in-house experience preferred
