Job Description

Performs highly complex (senior-level) legal assistant work for the Regional Legal Services Department including regional and guardianship work for multiple attorneys. Work involves coordinating and docketing cases for hearing, trial, appeal and other proceedings; drafting and reviewing legal documents either manually or using a forms database; researching, analyzing, and investigating legal cases and legal authority; filing and e-filing pleadings and other documents; assisting attorneys with case management; tracking all aspects of assignments and cases using databases or other automated systems, maintaining files, calendars and case logs; redacting confidential information; communicating on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, and or verify information, obtain information from client databases, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems. Assignments may be solely assigned or in conjunction with other support staff or program clients. Works under limited supervision to complete assignments timely and accurately.Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Drafts, reviews, and edits pleadings and other documents or correspondence for hearing, trial, appeal and other proceedings either manually or using a forms database (20%)

Files documents with the court clerk’s office as needed (20%)

Prepares exhibits and notebooks for trial, hearing or appeal(15%)

Coordinates and dockets cases for hearing and other proceedings and assists with scheduling (10%)

Provides, exchanges, and or verifies information, obtains information from client databases, answers inquiries, addresses issues, resolves problems (10%)

Tracks all aspects of assignments and cases using databases or other automated systems, maintains files, calendars and case logs (10%)

Researches, reviews, and analyzes case law and legal authority (10%)

Redacts confidential information (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of legal terminology, research methods and techniques, administrative and court procedures, and notice requirements. Skill in obtaining, receiving, understanding and processing information. Skill in the use of office equipment, and the use of computers, applicable software and databases. Ability to conduct research; to draft, prepare, and interpret legal documents; to evaluate and relate findings to cases in question; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to create electronic databases. Skill in standard office equipment and software i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. Ability to create and maintain databases. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Paralegal or legal assistant certification preferred, but not required.

Experience in guardianship or probate legal matters preferred, but not required.
